The jump pad, gap, and 90° turn near the shortcut were moved back, and the straight following said turn is wider. While the Item Boxes behind the two short jump pads are absent, an extra set of Item Boxes are added on the jump pad before them. The newly-added starting banner, which uses the classic Mario Kart logo, is held up by two light posts. The background appears to be less dark compared to its original appearance, allowing visibility of mountains, dead trees and an entire lake surrounding the track. It is one of the five Super Mario Kart courses in the game to have not previously appeared as a retro course since Mario Kart: Super Circuit, the other four being Vanilla Lake 1, Choco Island 1, Donut Plains 2, and Vanilla Lake 2. Ghost Valley 1 reappears in Mario Kart Tour, starting with the 2019 Halloween Tour.
